OET Licensing Surcharge-Minn. Stat. section 16E.22 - State Wide Electronic Licensing System - Friday, December 11, 2009
In the 2009 legislative session, the Minnesota Office of Enterprise Technology (OET) proposed to the legislature that an electronic (e-licensing) system for a “one-stop shop” for the issuing of business and professional licenses be created through a secure single point of entry. The bill passed. For the next six years, a 10% surcharge will be assessed on every new application and renewal application received at BBHT to fund the initiative. This surcharge affects all business, commercial, professional, or occupational licenses. All BBHT licensees will receive more detailed information about the surcharge in a mailing sent out the week of December 14, 2009.

LPCCs Recognized as Mental Health Professionals in Minnesota, Effective 7/1/2009
On Thursday, May 14, 2009, Governor Pawlenty signed into law HF1362 and SF695. Among other things, the bills designate Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCCs) as "Mental Health Professionals" in the State of Minnesota, effective July 1, 2009. The definition and scope of practice of a Mental Health Professional can be found in the Adult and Children's Mental Health Acts belonging to the Minnesota Department of Human Services. LADC Renewals due March 1, 2009 - Friday, February 27, 2009
Renewal applications and renewal fees for LADCs that have a license that expires on March 31, 2009 must be received by the Board office or be postmarked by March 1, 2009. This year, March 1 falls on a Sunday. For this reason, we will accept renewal applications and fees that are received by the Board office or postmarked by March 2, 2009. Please contact the Board office if you have any questions.

LPC Experienced Counselor Application Provision Expired - Wednesday, July 02, 2008
The professional counselor (LPC) application provision for experienced counselors (Minnesota Statutes section 148B.555) expired on July 1, 2008. Applications for licensure under this provision are no longer accepted by the Board office. However, applications for professional counselor license under the provisions known as Licensure by Examination; LP to LPC; LPP to LPC; and Licensure by Reciprocity will still be accepted indefinitely.

LADC Licensure Degree Requirement Change
This is a reminder that, effective July 1, 2008, applicants for alcohol and drug counselor licensure are required to have completed a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school or educational program. read more...

Alcohol and Drug Counselors Working in Formerly Exempt Settings
This is a reminder to individuals employed as alcohol and drug counselors in formerly exempt settings according to Minnesota Statutes section 148C.11 (school districts, hospitals, city, county, or state agencies). If you are working in one of these settings as an alcohol and drug counselor, you are now required to obtain a license or a temporary permit if you wish to continue to work as an alcohol and drug counselor in the State of Minnesota.
